Kendrick Lamar followed close behind with five Grammys, including best rap album. Jay-Z, who led the nominations with eight nods, was shut out completely.
Kesha played an emotional “Praying,” track that reminded sex abusers and racists that their time is up. Kendrick Lamar also performed a politically charged opening number that featured U2 and Dave Chappelle, and Rihanna’s “Wildest Thoughts” with DJ Khaled and Bryson Tiller.
The Sunday night’s show marks the Grammys’ first ceremony in New York since 2003.
