Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) on Wednesday said the notable achievement of the Buhari administration was the production of the joint ECOWAS stamp used to commemorate ECOWAS 40th anniversary.

Olaniyi Mr Taiye Olaniyi, the Corporate Affairs Manager, said in Abuja on Wednesday, on the achievement of the administration in the first year.

“On Dec 17 last year here in Nigeria, ECOWAS launched a stamp that incorporates all the 15 countries that make up ECOWAS, this is the joint stamp, which is the first of its kind throughout the world.

“We are categorised as member country in the ECOWAS, the pan African postal union and the universal postal union, our president and the presidents of member countries were there.

“The stamp immortalises that event because as long as the human race exists, that stamp remains, and just as the human race continues, so will the stamp continue to remain.

“So you can’t beat the post, the post may not have the money that other agencies have, but we have that ability to immortalise any good thing or situation.

“This is why I would have loved a kind of inclination of government toward realisation of making the post a veritable tool for governmental policy development in the country.

According to him, NIPOST is a dispassionate organisation that works in line with the agenda of all governments in power regardless of the party or individuals involved.

“The post’s duty is to uphold and ensure continuity to whatever has been done in the past by the government and that aspect of change and continuity in change and policy direction of government.

“We see government as a continuum, it is not biased in the area of politics, so we don’t care the party or individual in government, we are not biased about gender or religion.

We are a postal family and because even government is part of our own constituency, we see government as an area and anchor that must be seen to be dispassionate.

“This means that set goals by a previous government that is seen to be for the general good must be followed through from one level of advancement to another.’’

Olaniyi noted that as a government institution, the post was walking in line with the present government’s change agenda even in the ICT sector.

“Ministry of Communications has taken ICT as a vocal point and the post instead of letting this to be a hindrance has rather used it as a springboard to achieve set goals.

“As a parastatal under the Ministry of Communications, we also keyed into the plans of the ministry to use ICT to expand our scope and have greater reach to our customers.

“A few months back, we were in Ibadan to discuss the ICT sector and how the post utilises it, so whatever it is e-government, e-commerce, what have you; we are part and parcel of it. Some of these issues are policy issues, but at the same time it is our duty to endear the ministry to this policies for the benefit of the post, country and the world at large,’’ Olaniyi said.

The top official noted that the post was the most reliable and most acceptable institution in the world.
