SUN NOV 01 2026-theGBJournal| The Director-General of the National Campaign Council of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mallam Ibrahim Hussain Abdulkarim, has urged Nigerian youths and party supporters to avoid confrontation with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and focus on grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement addressed to young Nigerians and well-meaning citizens, Abdulkarim cautioned against disinformation aimed at weakening the party’s mobilisation efforts or creating hostility towards the electoral commission.

“Not everyone at INEC is opposed to a free and fair election. We must not make the Commission an enemy or direct harm toward its officials,” he said.

He added that party professionals, the leadership and the Presidential Campaign Council were already engaging INEC constructively, urging supporters to allow those responsible to handle institutional discussions.

Abdulkarim also raised concerns about what he described as attempts by some interests within the APC government to force unnecessary information and communication technology (ICT) procurements on INEC.

He warned supporters against being drawn into controversies surrounding the issue, saying the party’s focus should remain on voter mobilisation.

“The Osun elections have been an eye-opener: the more voters we bring out, the harder it becomes for anyone to rig the outcome,” he said.

The NDC campaign council director-general said nearly 50 million undecided voters remained open to persuasion, urging party supporters to take their message to communities, campuses and markets.

He called on members to introduce the party’s presidential candidate, promote its logo and encourage first-time voters to participate in the electoral process.

Abdulkarim particularly urged young Nigerians to volunteer as polling agents and electoral vanguards at different levels, describing their presence at polling units as an important safeguard against electoral malpractice.

“Your presence at the polling units is one of the strongest protections of the people’s will,” he said.

He also appealed to INEC to ensure free, fair and credible elections, assuring the commission of the party’s support for efforts aimed at strengthening electoral integrity.

“Stay focused. Organize. Mobilize. Vote and protect your votes like your life depends on it. Surely, our lives depend on it,” Abdulkarim said.

He maintained that high voter turnout and disciplined participation remained central to the party’s electoral strategy, urging supporters to concentrate on community engagement and the protection of votes.

“Together, we will secure the future Nigeria deserves,” he added.
