SUN NOV 01 2026-theGBJournal| The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has allayed fears of an Ebola outbreak in Adamawa State, saying two individuals identified as suspected cases in Yola tested negative for the virus after two rounds of laboratory testing.

The agency said Saturday that there was currently no laboratory-confirmed Ebola case in Adamawa, adding that the previously confirmed case in the Federal Capital Territory remained the only confirmed infection reported in Nigeria.

The two individuals were identified after the Adamawa State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre received a report in the early hours of October 30 that they were presenting symptoms suggestive of Ebola disease.

They were subsequently isolated, while samples were collected for laboratory investigations to establish the cause of their illness.

In a statement dated October 31, NCDC Director-General Jide Idris said the samples returned negative results after two rounds of testing.

The agency said it was working closely with the Adamawa State Government, through the State Ministry of Health and Human Services, to investigate the report and implement appropriate public health measures.

Idris commended the state Commissioner for Health and his team for their response, assuring that the NCDC would continue to provide technical support to strengthen disease surveillance and response operations.

The clarification follows an earlier alert by the agency that two suspected Ebola cases had been identified in Nigeria’s North-East, prompting concerns about a possible spread of the disease beyond the country’s first confirmed case.

Nigeria confirmed an Ebola infection in the FCT on October 20 involving a woman who had travelled from Uganda. The patient was subsequently evacuated to Switzerland for continued medical care.

The NCDC has continued to coordinate surveillance, contact tracing and other containment measures following the confirmation.

While urging Nigerians to remain calm and avoid circulating unverified information, the agency stressed the importance of early identification and appropriate medical attention.

It advised people experiencing symptoms such as fever, severe weakness, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding, particularly following a relevant exposure, to seek immediate medical attention and disclose their travel or contact history to healthcare workers.

The agency also advised against self-medication and urged the public to follow guidance from health authorities.

Ebola is a serious infectious disease that requires prompt identification, appropriate clinical management and strict infection prevention and control measures.

The NCDC said it would continue working with the Adamawa State Government and other stakeholders to monitor the situation and provide verified updates.
