TUE OCT 20 2026-theGBJournal| The Delta State Government has declared three days of mourning following the death of former governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, who died in the early hours of Monday, October 19, 2026, aged 71.

The mourning period, which began on Monday, is intended to honour Uduaghan, who governed the oil-producing southern Nigerian state for eight years, from 2007 to 2015.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has directed that all flags on public buildings across Delta State be flown at half-mast throughout the three-day period as a mark of respect for the late former governor.

The directive was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu.

Uduaghan, a medical doctor before entering politics, served as governor during a period when oil revenues, infrastructure development and the management of the Niger Delta’s resources remained central to debates about governance in the region.

His death marks the passing of a former state leader whose administration spanned eight years of Delta’s political and developmental history.
