WED SEPT 30 2026-theGBJournal| The Nigerian equities market closed today’s session on a negative note, as the NGX All-Share Index (ASI) declined by 0.29% to close at 251,913.20 points, while market capitalisation also fell by 0.29% to settle at N163.53 trillion. Consequently, the ASI’s year-to-date return declined to 61.88%, from 62.35% in the previous session.
The negative performance was driven by losses in BUACEMENT (-3.1%), GTCO (-3.3%), UNILEVER (-8.6%) and ZENITHBANK (-1.0%), which outweighed gains in WEMABANK (+2.99%), AIICO (+3.95%) and CWG (+6.96%).
Market activity weakened, as total volume traded declined by 45.92% to 548.67mn units, while value traded fell by 12.09% to N34.30 billion.
GTCO (-3.28%) recorded the highest trading volume at 88.73mn units and also accounted for the highest transaction value at N11.73bn.
Market breadth was negative at 0.85x, indicating a higher number of losers relative to gainers, as thirty-three stocks declined against twenty-eight advancers.
SOVRENINS (-9.92%) emerged as the session’s top loser, while NPFMCRFBK (+10.00%) led the gainers’ chart.
The NASD OTC market closed today’s session on a negative note, as the NASD Security Index (NSI) declined by 7.27% to 4,090.59 points (as of Monday, 28 September 2026).
Market capitalisation also decreased by 7.17% to N2.46 trillion, while the market’s year-to-date (YTD) return moderated to 15.43% from 24.48% (as of Monday, 28 September 2026).
The official FX rate appreciated by 0.1% to N1,330.30/USD. Meanwhile, Nigeria’s external reserves increased by 0.03% to $54.87 billion as of 25 September 2026, extending the recent improvement in the country’s reserve position.
