THUR AUG 20 2026-theGBJournal| The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved about N438 billion for road construction and rehabilitation projects across Nigeria, including major investments in Ogun State, as the Federal Government seeks to improve connectivity, ease freight movement and strengthen infrastructure supporting economic activity.

Ogun emerged as a major beneficiary of the approvals, with N54.12 billion earmarked for the rehabilitation of the Abeokuta–Iboro–Ilaro Road and another N94.24 billion approved for the construction of the Ilara–Iselu Road, Phases II–V. Together, the two projects represent more than N148 billion in federal road investment in the state.

The scale of the Ogun allocation highlights the strategic importance of road infrastructure in linking production centres, markets and communities, particularly in one of Nigeria’s most industrialised states. Better road connectivity is also expected to support the movement of goods and reduce transport bottlenecks along key economic corridors.

The council’s approvals also include major trailer park investments and highway concessions, signalling a broader push beyond road construction towards infrastructure designed to support freight logistics and improve the efficiency of Nigeria’s transport network.

The approvals reflect the Federal Government’s continued commitment to strengthening road infrastructure, improving connectivity and supporting economic activity across the country.
