TUE AUG 18 2026-theGBJournal| Geregu Power Plc has appointed veteran power-sector executive Mohammed Sani Jaoji as acting chief executive officer, in a leadership reset aimed at strengthening the company’s strategic and operational direction.

Jaoji assumes the role effective August 17, subject to approval by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), following the end of Sean Manley’s tenure as interim CEO on August 14.

The appointment brings more than three decades of power-sector experience back to the top of one of Nigeria’s leading electricity generation companies.

Jaoji began his career with the former National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) and later held a series of technical and leadership positions at Geregu Power.

He joined Geregu in 2007 and served as Head of Maintenance Planning and Performance until 2019, before moving to the Ministry of Power as Technical Assistant to the minister, a role he held until 2023.

He subsequently returned to Geregu.

Jaoji holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and is registered with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).

The board said his appointment would strengthen Geregu’s governance structure and strategic direction while it searches for a substantive chief executive.

This appointment follows the non-renewal of the term of the Interim Chief
Executive Officer, Mr. Sean Manley, which ended on August 14, 2026.

The Board also expresses its sincere appreciation to Mr. Manley for his service and contributions to the Company during his tenure and wishes him success in his future endeavours.

The leadership transition comes at a consequential period for the company, which has faced heightened investor attention following a recent bond default.

The board’s decision to bring back an experienced industry executive could therefore provide an opportunity to reinforce operational discipline and investor confidence as Geregu moves into its next phase.

The company said the appointment was made in compliance with the rules of the Nigerian Exchange Limited.
