THUR JULY 09 2026-theGBJournal| The NGX All-Share Index (ASI) rose sharply on Wednesday after strong gains in banking, insurance, telecoms and energy shares, extending market’s run this week.

The NGX benchmark index rose 2.27% to close at 242,459.98 points. Consequently, market capitalisation rose by 2.27% to N155.59 trillion, while the year-to-date return improved to 55.81%, from 52.35% in the previous trading session.

The positive market performance was driven by strong gains in AIRTELAFRI (+10.00%), ARADEL (+8.68%), and FIDELITYBK (+9.97%), which more than offset losses in CWG (-5.24%), DANGSUGAR (-1.39%), and AIICO (-1.71%).

Trading activity was mixed during the session, as total traded volume increased by 5.02% to 518.43 million units, while the value of transactions declined by 18.80% to N22.75 billion.

LASACO recorded the highest traded volume with 56.60mn units exchanged, while ARADEL led the value chart with transactions worth N4.20 billion.
Market breadth remained positive at 1.33x, reflecting sustained buying interest as gainers outnumbered losers.

A total of 32 stocks advanced, led by AIRTELAFRI (+10.00%), while 24 stocks declined, with HMCALL (-9.95%) emerging as the worst-performing stock of the session.

The NASD OTC market closed today’s session on a bullish note, as the NASD Security Index (NSI) advanced by 6.84% to 4,250.20 points.

Consequently, market capitalisation increased by 6.84% to N2.55 trillion, while the year-to-date return improved to 19.94%.

Trading activity weakened significantly during the session, with total traded volume declining by 50.91% and the value of transactions falling by 31.87%. A total of 158,933 shares valued at N10.85mn were exchanged across 31 deals.

On the performance chart, SDFOODCPT emerged as the top-performing stock, gaining 9.01%, while no stocks closed in negative territory during the session.
