TUE JUNE 23 2026-theGBJournal| Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang hosted Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria Yu Dunhai and a delegation of senior executives from leading Chinese firms, seeking to deepen economic ties and attract investment into agriculture, mining, infrastructure and industrial development.
Pitching Plateau as a strategic investment destination, Mutfwang outlined plans to transform the state’s agricultural sector through mechanisation, agro-processing and a proposed 500-hectare Special Agro-Processing Zone near the Yakubu Gowon International Cargo Airport, while calling for collaboration on responsible mining practices.
The governor described the relationship between Plateau State and China as one that has evolved steadily over several decades.
He emphasized the need to deepen cooperation beyond national-level bilateral engagements by fostering direct partnerships between Plateau State and Chinese provinces.
He equally reiterated that his administration seeks meaningful partnerships capable of unlocking the state’s vast economic potential through investment, technology transfer, innovation, and knowledge exchange.
On the mining sector, the Governor advocated responsible and sustainable mining practices that prioritize local value addition, environmental protection, and community empowerment.
He also called for stronger collaboration with the Chinese Embassy in addressing illegal mining activities and safeguarding host communities.
Ambassador Yu pledged continued support from Beijing and said the visiting delegation, comprising executives from four major Chinese companies, would explore opportunities across key sectors as trade between China and Nigeria continues to expand into the billions of dollars.
