MON JUNE 08 2026-theGBJournal| President Bola Tinubu on Monday praised the country’s military and security personnel for their efforts in combating terrorism, banditry and other forms of violent crime, describing them as a vital shield protecting citizens across the country.

In a message addressed to troops and security agencies, Tinubu commended soldiers serving on the front lines in forests, remote communities, roads, waterways and other challenging terrains, saying their commitment had enabled millions of Nigerians to carry out their daily activities in safety.

“You stand as a shield between innocent citizens and those who seek to destroy the peace, safety and dignity of our communities,” the president said.

Tinubu acknowledged the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces and other security agencies, including the police, intelligence services and civil defence corps, noting that the fight against terrorism had come with significant challenges and personal costs.

He also paid tribute to security personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty, saying their contributions continued to be reflected in the protection of communities and the preservation of national security.

The president extended his appreciation to the families of security personnel, recognising the hardships associated with long deployments, uncertainty and the emotional toll of service.

Tinubu called on Nigerians to support ongoing security operations by providing timely information to authorities, stressing that the battle against terrorism and violent extremism required collective national effort.

“The fight against terror is not only a military operation. It is a national duty,” he said, urging citizens to report suspicious activities to security agencies.

The president reaffirmed his government’s resolve to confront terrorism, kidnapping, banditry and other security threats, stating that Nigeria would not be defined by violence or fear.

“Nigeria will not surrender to fear. We will not allow terrorists, bandits, kidnappers or violent extremists to define who we are as a people,” Tinubu said.

Nigeria has faced persistent security challenges in recent years, including insurgent attacks in the northeast, banditry in the northwest, and kidnapping-for-ransom incidents across several regions of the country.
