TUE MAY 12 2026-theGBJournal| Nigeria took center stage at the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, as the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, showcased the country’s sweeping maritime reforms and blue economy ambitions before an audience of African leaders, global investors and maritime stakeholders.

The high-level engagement highlighted Nigeria’s drive to unlock sustainable economic growth through strategic investments, policy innovation and an aggressive port modernization programme aimed at positioning the nation as the leading maritime hub in West and Central Africa.

Speaking during the session, Oyetola unveiled sweeping reforms introduced since the creation of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy in August 2023, including the development of Nigeria’s first-ever National Policy on Marine and Blue Economy.

He further revealed that agencies under the Ministry generated an impressive N1.83 trillion in 2025, while the ongoing port modernization programme is set to boost trade, create thousands of jobs and cement Nigeria’s position as the premier maritime hub for West and Central Africa.

Co-hosted by Presidents William Ruto and Emmanuel Macron, the summit convened African heads of state, policymakers, investors and development partners to deepen partnerships, unlock innovation and fast-track sustainable economic growth across the continent.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu joined fellow African leaders at the landmark gathering, underscoring Nigeria’s strong commitment to regional integration, economic transformation and maritime advancement.
