WED MAY 06 2026-theGBJournal| Nigeria and the United States have launched Defence Institutional Technical Working Groups (DITWGs) in Abuja under the 2026 Defence Cooperation Roadmap, a move aimed at tightening joint action against terrorism and regional instability.
Leading the U.S. delegation, Cate Dave said the groups will drive long-term planning, build stronger defence institutions, and help prevent terrorists from finding safe havens.
He stressed that stronger institutions are key to more effective counterterrorism operations.
Nigeria’s delegation head, Air Vice Marshal Francis Edosa, described the initiative as critical to confronting evolving security threats at home and across the region.
He said the partnership will focus on improving the Armed Forces’ warfighting capacity and response speed, with the goal of restoring lasting peace and stability nationwide.
Both countries underscored the need for measurable results, accountability, and sustained cooperation to strengthen security and stabilize the region.
