WED APRIL 15 2026-theGBJournal| The Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF) is ramping up efforts to unlock Nigeria’s vast gas potential, engaging international partners in a strategic push to convert flared gas into cleaner energy and boost domestic supply.

Mr. Oluwole Adama, Executive Director of MDGIF, on Tuesday, hosted representatives of Africa GTC Power and Invest International—a Dutch government-backed enterprise—in Abuja to explore co-funding opportunities for a major Gas-to-LPG and power project located in Ikwerre, Agbada, Port Harcourt.

The proposed initiative aims to repurpose flared gas into productive use, generating up to 25 megawatts of electricity while also producing significant volumes of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).

The project is expected to expand access to cleaner and more reliable energy for both households and industries, while simultaneously reducing environmental pollution and supporting Nigeria’s gas commercialisation drive.

Speaking during the engagement, Adama reaffirmed MDGIF’s commitment to catalysing high-impact investments that deliver tangible socio-economic benefits.

He noted that the project aligns with the Fund’s mandate under the Petroleum Industry Act 2021, particularly in accelerating gas infrastructure development, strengthening energy security, and fostering a more sustainable and efficient midstream and downstream gas sector.
