FRI APRIL 10 2026-theGBJournal| The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) Chief Executive, Engr. Saidu A. Mohammed has emphasized the need for Nigeria to pursue its ambitious crude oil production target of 3 million barrels per day in tandem with its “Decade of Gas” goal of 22 billion cubic feet per day.

He delivered the message at the 2026 Oloibiri Lecture Series and Energy Forum (OLEF) hosted by the Society of Petroleum Engineers Nigeria Council in Abuja on Thursday, where he also called for stronger alignment of digital technologies, capital investment and policy frameworks to enhance efficiency across Nigeria’s petroleum industry.

The address underscored the importance of adopting a balanced approach that leverages both oil and gas resources to drive sustainable growth in the country’s energy sector.

Engr. Mohammed noted that achieving these dual targets will depend on the availability of adequate financing, deployment of efficient technological systems, and the implementation of robust policy frameworks.

According to him, creating an enabling environment that attracts and sustains long-term investment will be critical to unlocking Nigeria’s full energy potential and ensuring resilience in a rapidly evolving global energy landscape.

He further disclosed that the Authority will soon unveil Project NEXUS, a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening regulatory effectiveness, accelerating gas development, and positioning Nigeria as a leading energy hub in Africa.

Engr. Mohammed emphasized that achieving these targets will require increased investment in critical infrastructure, adoption of advanced technologies and sustained collaboration among industry stakeholders.

Speaking at the event also were the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperipe Ekpo; the Commission Chief Executive, Mrs Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan; NNPC GCEO, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari; and other industry leaders.
