THUR APRIL 09 2026-theGBJournal| The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole on Wednesday, inaugurated the newly reconstituted Board of the Nigerian Commodity Exchange (NCX), signaling a renewed push to reposition the country’s commodities market for growth and global relevance.

The move marks a critical step toward revitalizing the Exchange as a key driver of trade, price discovery, and agricultural value chain development.

The Exchange, according to the Minister, is a key catalyst for enhancing price discovery, improving market transparency, and driving the expansion of non-oil exports

According to the Minister, the reconstituted Board is expected to provide the strategic oversight needed to fully operationalize the Exchange, enhance governance standards, and strengthen institutional accountability.

She emphasized that a functional and transparent commodities exchange is essential for improving market efficiency and unlocking opportunities across Nigeria’s agricultural and solid minerals sectors.

Oduwole further noted that the initiative is aimed at attracting much-needed domestic and foreign investment into the commodities ecosystem, ultimately positioning Nigeria more competitively within regional and global value chains.

With improved structure and leadership, the NCX is expected to serve as a catalyst for economic diversification, job creation, and increased export earnings.

The new Board Chairman, Dalhatu Abubakar, promised to transform Nigeria’s commodity market into a globally competitive platform, positioning it as a key driver of economic growth and food security.

He noted that the Exchange holds a significant potential to transform Nigeria’s agricultural sector and broader economy aligning with national development priorities.

The Managing Director of the Exchange, Anthony Atuche, also expressed confidence in the newly constituted leadership, describing members as experienced professionals capable of advancing the institution’s mandate.
