THUR APRIL 02 2026-theGBJournal| Nigeria’s downstream regulator, Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has approved the use of F-500 Encapsulator as a fire suppression agent across petroleum handling facilities, marking a significant step toward strengthening industrial safety standards.
F-500 Encapsulator is an advanced, water-based fire suppression agent used to extinguish and control different types of fires—especially in high-risk environments like oil and gas facilities.
The clearance by the NMDPRA follows a comprehensive review process aimed at ensuring the product meets stringent operational and environmental requirements.
The approval, pursuant of the Midstream and Downstream Safety Regulations 2023, comes after a detailed regulatory evaluation of the product’s documentation, including its technical specifications, Safety Data Sheet (SDS), and results from acute eco-toxicity tests conducted under Nigerian environmental conditions.
Findings from the assessment confirmed that F-500 Encapsulator delivers effective fire-suppression performance while maintaining compliance with established safety and environmental benchmarks.
Accordingly, the Authority recognized the suitability of this class of fire-suppression technology for use in the Midstream and Downstream Petroleum operations, where applicable.
With this endorsement, operators within Nigeria’s petroleum value chain can now deploy the product in controlled applications, reinforcing emergency response capabilities and risk mitigation frameworks.
The move underscores NMDPRA’s commitment to adopting innovative, compliant technologies that enhance safety, protect the environment, and support sustainable operations in the sector.
