TUE MAR 31 2026-theGBJournal| The Northern State Governors Forum (NSGF) has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating Nigeria’s transition to clean energy, resolving to sustain high-level engagements with the Presidential Implementation Committee on Technology Transfer to fast-track the establishment of the New Nigeria Energy Company (NNEC) under the Sun Africa project.
The decision formed a key part of the communiqué delivered by the Forum’s Chairman and Gombe State Governor, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, following a strategic meeting held at the Gombe State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
The initiative is expected to unlock large-scale renewable energy investments and expand access to sustainable power across northern states.
Governor Yahaya emphasized that the collaboration with federal authorities and private sector partners is aimed at ensuring effective technology transfer, local capacity development, and timely project execution.
He noted that the NNEC would serve as a critical vehicle for driving solar energy deployment and reducing dependence on fossil fuels in the region.
The NSGF also agreed to engage consultants to explore ways of improving internally generated revenue across the region, especially by identifying and harnessing untapped taxable sources.
The forum further resolved to fully support the digitalisation of its secretariat to improve efficiency and productivity.
On the issue of security, the NSGF reiterated its dedication and support to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to effectively address the evolving security threats and ensure lasting peace in the region and the entire country.
The forum equally called on all Nigerians to support the president and all the security agencies in the fight to ensure a secured nation.
The meeting was attended by several governors, including Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, underscoring the collective resolve of northern leaders to tackle energy deficits and support economic growth through cleaner, more reliable energy solutions.
