TUE MAR 31 2026-theGBJournal| The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has announced a two-week extension for the filing of individual annual tax returns, shifting the deadline from April 1 to April 14, 2026.
The move offers taxpayers across the state additional time to meet their statutory obligations without penalties.
According to the Executive Chairman of LIRS, Dr. Ayodele Subair, the extension is designed to enable individuals to complete and submit accurate tax returns, reducing the likelihood of errors and ensuring compliance with existing tax regulations.
He emphasized the agency’s commitment to supporting taxpayers through a more flexible timeline.
Subair also reiterated that electronic filing via the LIRS eTax platform remains the only approved method for submitting annual returns, noting that compliance should be embedded as a routine personal practice.
He described the platform as secure, user-friendly, and accessible 24/7, allowing taxpayers to file conveniently from anywhere. He also advised individuals to ensure that their TaxID (Tax Identification Number) is correctly captured in their submissions.
The extension underscores LIRS’ ongoing efforts to enhance voluntary compliance and streamline tax administration in Lagos.
