FRI MAR 20 2026-theGBJournal| The chief organizer of the disturbing March 19-20 Ozoro festival, Omorede Sunday, and five others have been arrested, following swift police action, the Delta State Police Command confirmed today.
Several women were sexually molested and assaulted during the local festival that has been widely condemned as barbaric.
One disturbing video footage showed mobs dragging a woman off a motorcycle while beating her protectors.
The State Police Commissioner, CP Aina Adesola has further directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive investigation, with tactical and investigative teams deployed to identify, track, and apprehend all those involved.
The Command also has called on victims and witnesses to come forward with relevant information, assuring that all reports will be treated with strict confidentiality and professionalism.
Reiterating its stance, the Police Command strongly condemned the development and assured residents that all perpetrators will be brought to justice, while urging the public to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding.
The Police described the acts as criminal, inhuman, and grave violation of the rights and dignity of victims.
