TUE MAR 17 2026-theGBJournal| Disciplinary Committee of World football governing body, FIFA has rejected Nigeria’s protest against DR Congo, bringing an end to the expectation of millions of Nigerians hoping to see the Super Eagles at the 2026 World Cup Play-off.

The decision affirms the original match outcome, dealing a setback to Nigeria’s hopes of overturning the result through administrative review.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) say they will appeal the decision, which they say they are not satisfied.

”e received the decision of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee on our petition, but we are not satisfied with the decision, which rejected our petition. I want to assure Nigerians that the NFF has immediately commenced the process of appealing the decision” said NFF General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi.

The Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) will hear the case when it is eventually filed by the NFF.

The protest, lodged by the NFF, centered on alleged irregularities involving the Congolese side. However, after a thorough evaluation of the submission and supporting evidence, FIFA ruled that the claims did not warrant disciplinary action or a reversal of the match result.

The ruling represents a significant blow, particularly given the potential implications the outcome could have had on standings and qualification prospects.

Meanwhile, DR Congo, which has yet to comment on the FIFA Disciplinary Committee ruling, will take confidence from the verdict, with the result officially standing as both teams continue their respective campaigns.
