THUR FEB 26 2026-theGBJournal| The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has announced Friday, 27 February 2026 as the official date for the closure of registration and submission of pre-qualification documents under the 2025 Licensing Round Guidelines, setting the stage for the next phase of Nigeria’s upstream asset allocation process.
The deadline date is set in accordance with Section 11.2 of the Licensing Round Guidelines, the NUPRC said in a statement Wednesday.
The Commission also advised all applicants to ensure full compliance with the stipulated submission requirements within the prescribed timeline.
The 2025 Licensing Round is expected to draw both indigenous and international oil companies seeking to expand exploration and production portfolios amid Nigeria’s drive to boost crude output and deepen gas development.
Industry watchers say clarity on timelines provides certainty for investors navigating capital allocation decisions in a competitive global energy landscape.
With the countdown now in motion, attention shifts to the quality of submissions and the level of participation the round will attract.
Analysts note that a well-executed process could reinforce investor confidence, strengthen upstream activity and support the broader objectives of the Petroleum Industry Act in repositioning Nigeria’s energy sector for sustainable growth.
According to official projections by the NUPRC, Nigeria could potentially earn up to about $10 billion in new upstream oil and gas investments from its 2025 licensing round.
