FRI JAN 16 2026-theGBJournal| NGX Group CEO Temi Popoola said on Thursday while presenting the rationale for the launch of the NGX Net-Zero Programme that, ”Climate action is now a business imperative.”

He argued that that companies that embed sustainability into strategy and governance will attract capital, manage risk better, and remain competitive.

”The NGX Net-Zero Programme enables companies to move from climate ambition to measurable actions,” Umaru Kwairanga, the NGX Group Chairman added.

Kwairanga said the capital market must be at the centre of climate leadership in Africa.

CEOs of listed companies, development partners from German Development Finance Institution (DEG), and Africa Foresight Group, NGX’s implementing partner, came together for the NGX Net-Zero Programme Roundtable.

The high-level engagement provided a platform for leaders to exchange bold ideas, explore practical actions, and deepen their commitment to integrating sustainability into business strategy and governance.

Through candid discussions and collaborative dialogue, participants examined how capital markets can accelerate Nigeria’s transition to a low-carbon economy while creating long-term value for businesses and investors.

NGX Net-Zero marks a decisive step forward, uniting leadership around a shared vision and translating climate ambition into actionable pathways for sustainable growth.

The event culminated with a Closing Gong Ceremony, followed with a multi-million-naira co-funding partnership between NGX Group and DEG, to provide subsidized net-zero transition planning, technical capacity building and globally recognized frameworks for listed companies.

Ms. Monika Beck, Member of the Management Board of DEG, speaking at the event, said DEG’s corporate strategy is centred on mobilising private capital to deliver measurable development impact, accelerate climate action, and generate sustainable returns.

”Partnerships such as this enable us to scale solutions that are both impactful and commercially viable.”
