SUN DEC 28 2025-theGBJournal| Nigeria’s Super Eagles beat Tunisia 3-2 on Saturday in their pivotal Group C clash at the Complexe Sportif de Fès to secure their second victory, and move clear at the top of the Group.
Both teams began the match with three points from their first outing. Nigeria edged Tanzania 2-1 and Tunisia defeated Uganda 3-1 to put them ahead in the Group.
With knockout-stage qualification on the line, the encounter lived up to its promise of intensity as both sides played to consolidate their winning starts.
Ademola Lookman was the standout performer, earning Man of the Match honours after a decisive display that underlined Nigeria’s attacking depth and resilience.
Victor Osimhen, Winifred Ndidi and Ademola Lookman scored Nigeria’s goals to hold-off a late Tunisia fightback.
Montassar Talbi’s header from a Hannibal Mejbri free-kick pulled one back for Tunisia. Then a converted late penalty following a video assistant referee (VAR) review in the 87th minute for a handball by Bright Osayi-Samuel was slotted in by Ali Abdi as the Carthage Eagles come close to a dramatic equalizer in stoppage time.
The victory means Nigeria are guaranteed top spot with a game to spare, and will face a third-placed side from Group A,B or F in the next round in Fes.
