Oyo State Government revs up allocation on infrastructure, education and agriculture in 2026 spending plan

TUE NOV 25 2025-theGBJournal| The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde on Monday presented the state’s 2026 Appropriation Bill to the House of Assembly, revealing higher allocations to key sectors of the economy, including infrastructure, education and agriculture.

Capital expenditure makes up 56.37% of the total budget, while recurrent expenditure is 43.63% in budget totaling N892 billion.

Overall total of N502.8 billion is allocated to capital expenditure while N389.5 billion is proposed to be spent on recurrent expenditure.

Infrastructure spending takes N210.025 billion, education is allocated N155.2 billion, healthcare spending is nearly doubled to N71 billion while agriculture is allocated nearly N20 billion for the fiscal year 2026.

The budget is tagged ”Budget of Economic expansion”

Among the projects the Governor said he will focus on are the AfCFTA-focused initiatuves, the Oluyole Free Trade Zone, the Special Agriculture Zones, as well as the dry and logistics ports, upgrading of Ladoke Akintola Airport, and the expansive 110km Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road linking key commercial corridors.

‘Our goal for this budget is to build on the gains from the 2025 budget of economic stabilization to further grow the Oyo State economy,” Governor Makinde said while presenting the budget.

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin described the budget proposal as people-centered and strategically aligned with the development priorities of the state.
