G20 Summit| VP Shettima arrives Jo’burg; Heads of State, the AU, leading institutions to advance Africa’s priorities on the global stage

Vice President Kashim Shettima, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, Mr Wale Edun in Jo’burg ahead of the G20 meeting

SAT NOV 22 2025-theGBJournal| Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Bola Tinubu, has arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa, for the G20 Leaders’ Summit.

The Vice President, who arrived on Friday evening, was briefed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar; the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun; and other government officials ahead of the meeting.

President Tinubu was earlier scheduled to be in South Africa on Wednesday, November 19, following an invitation from his counterpart and current President of the G20, South African leader

-Yesterday, on the margins of the G20 Leaders’ Summit, African Heads of State, the African Union, and leading African institutions convened to present a unified continental voice and advance Africa’s priorities on the global stage.

The meeting focused on the four high-level priorities guiding South Africa’s G20 Presidency

-Strengthening disaster resilience and response

-Ensuring debt sustainability for low-income countries

-Mobilising finance for a just energy transition

-Harnessing Africa’s minerals for inclusive, sustainable growth

Leaders reaffirmed their commitment to work collectively with the G20, international institutions, and global partners to accelerate Africa’s transformation, strengthen resilience, and unlock the continent’s full potential under Agenda 2063.

South African women and girls protest ahead of the G20 Summit

-Ahead of the G20 Summit, South African women and girls to part in a nationwide shutdown called by the advocacy group, Women for Change, to ask the South African Government to declare gender0based violence and femicide a ”National Disaster.
