NGX All-Share rises 3.18% w/w led by Insurance

SAT AUG 09 2025-theGBJournal| Nigerian equities rose on Friday, led by the insurance sector, as major indices ended the week with solid gains.

The NGX All-Share Index closed 3.18% higher to 145,754.91 points, with market capitalization jumping to N92.215 trillion.

All other indices finished higher with the exception of NGX CG, NGX Banking, NGX Pension, NGX AFR Bank value, NGX AFR Div. Yield, NGX MERI Value, NGX Growth, and NGX Commodity which depreciated by 0.64%, 0.75%, 0.14%, 1.01%, 0.66%, 1.25%, 7.91% and 2.33% respectively.

The insurance sector +41.0% following strong positive reaction to the enactment of the Insurance Industry Reform Act.

BUAFOODS (+18.9%), DANGCEM (+9.2%), BUACEMENT (+13.9%), AIICO (+59.8%), CORNERST (+54.5%) and NEM (+29.9%) lifted the market, as the MTD and YTD returns settled higher at +4.2% and +41.6%, respectively.

Market activity was mixed, as trading volume increased by 80.2% w/w, while trading value declined by 10.1% w/w.

Trading in the top three equities, namely Linkage Assurance Plc, Consolidated Hallmark Holdings Plc, and Universal Insurance Plc (measured by volume), accounted for 3.195 billion shares worth N6.594 billion in 3,964 deals, contributing 36.57% and 4.90% to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively

On sectors, performance was broadly positive, as the Industrial Goods (+8.7%), Consumer Goods (+8.3%), and Oil & Gas (+0.2%) indices advanced alongside the insurance sector, while the Banking (-0.8%) index was the sole loser of the week.

Sixty-six equities appreciated in price during the week, higher than fifty-four equities in the previous week. Forty-one equities depreciated in price, lower than forty-nine in the previous week, while thirty-nine equities remained unchanged, lower than forty-three recorded in the previous week.

Meanwhile, the NASD OTC Securities Index (NSI) and market capitalisation declined by 1.26% w/w, respectively.

The NSI closed at 3,655.10 points, while market capitalisation closed N2.14trn.

Market activity declined considerably, as volume and transaction value declined by 69.21% and 57.79%, respectively.

SDFOODCPT (+0.31%) topped the market gainers, while SDCSCSPLC (-0.93%) led the market losers.
