FRI AUG 08 2025-theGBJournal| The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani today unveiled the high-level design for Project BRIDGE, the Federal Government’s bold initiative to deploy 90,000km of fibre-optic infrastructure across Nigeria at an event hosted in partnership with the Association of Telecom Operators of Nigeria (ATCON).

Tijani describes Project Bridge as the most ambitious and foundational digital infrastructure project in Nigeria’s history, and is currently the largest digital fibre backbone investment in any developing nation.
Project Bridge is designed to a deliver high-speed, resilient, and equitable broadband connectivity to every corner of Nigeria-from major urban hubs to remote communities.
The Minister revealed in July, while opening ”Request for Expressions of Interest for Transaction Advisor,” for the project that the Federal Government of Nigeria has applied for financing from the World Bank towards the cost of the building the Digital infrastucture.
He said the project will be structured as a Public Private Partnership (PPP) implemented through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) company, and the Government intends to apply part of the proceeds from World Bank financing for Transaction Advisory consulting services.
Meanwhile, Project Bridge is structured to support the needs of both large and small ISPs, offering scalable access through core metropolitan, and middle mile layers.
”By enabling healthy competition and network sharing, it will accelerate fixed broadband growth nationwide,” Bosun Tijani said.
At the heart of the design are seven regional backbone rings, a resilient national framework of 120,000km of fibre, interconnecting Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones and Lagos.
Each region is covered by a dedicated fibre ring (Lagos, South West, North Centfral, North East and North West), strategically planned to connect urban centres and enhance regional interconnectivity.
This regional design supports economic activity, governance, education, and digital access across all zones.
”As we advance into the next phase of the rollout, I look forward to comments and engagement from industry partners and stakeholders as we bring this vision to life.
Together, we will bridge the digital divide and ensure that more Nigerians can participate in and benefit from a thriving Digital Economy,” Tijani said.
