TUE AUG 05 2025-theGBJournal| Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, Group CEO of NNPC Ltd, shared his thoughts on how Africa’s energy transition should be progressed saying, the transition must not be imposed; it must be negotiated, it must be contextualised, and it must be judged.

He urged Africa to assert its global relevance in the energy sector through improved governance, contract adherence, and transparent leadership.

His position was revealed when he delivered the opening remarks at the SPE Nigeria Annual International Conference and Exhibition (NAICE 2025), themed “Building A Sustainable Energy Future: Leveraging Technology, Supply Chain, Human Resources, and Policy.”

Ojulari advocated recognising natural gas as a transitional fuel, scaling clean cooking technologies, and using hydrocarbon revenues to fund renewables, infrastructure, and education towards ensuring energy justice and equity for Africa.

He called for collaborative stewardship to attract investment, foster technological advancement, and empower youth through Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) education and green skills development.

”Let us empower our youth to see the energy sector not just as a place of infrastructure but as a space of innovation, inclusion, and global relevance,” he said.
