THUR JULY 03 2025-theGBJournal| Diogo Jota, the prolific Liverpool Football Club and Portuguese star, has been killed in a car crash in Spain along with his brother, Andre, also a professional footballer.

Reports say the tragic accident occurred in the Zamora region of Spain at 12:30 a.m.

His death comes 10 days after his marriage to his longtime girlfriend, Rute Cardoso. Both had three children together.

Liverpool Football Club announced Jota’s death Thursday in a short statement saying, ”the club have been informed the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre.”

Liverpool FC said ”they will be making no further comment at this time,” and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre’s family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with the ”unimaginable loss.”

In a tribute to Jota on X, the Portuguese national team said, ”far beyond being an exceptional player, with nearly 50 caps for the national team, Diogo Jota was an extraordinary person, respected by all team mates and opponents, someone with contagious joy and a refence within his own community.”
