THUR JUNE 12 2025-theGBJournal| An Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner with 230 passengers and 12 crew members on board bound for London Gatwick airport on Thursday, crashed into a residential area in Ahmedabad, India, shortly after take off.
It is feared everyone on board the flight (Air India flight 171) is dead.
Reports say the airplane’s radar data, after departure from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 1:39 PM IST, showed the plane went down after climbing for just about 625 feet-less than a minute after take off.
The Indian Directorate of General Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed to media outlets in India that the crew, led by First Officer Clive Kundar, issued a MAYDAY distress call moments after take off, signaling a critical emergency.
Aviation experts say a very critical technical fault-which went unchecked- is the only plausible explanation for the sudden drop off from the sky.
The air plane is one of the most sophisticated airplanes in the world, equipped with advanced navigation and safety systems that enhance situational awareness and operational efficiency including Synthetic Vision System (SVS) which provides a 3D view of terrain and potential obstacles.
The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has since sent in his condolences to families of victims.
”My thoughts are with everyone affected,” he said.
