THUR JUNE 05 2025-theGBJournal| Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has unveiled an ambitious plan to build the largest cotton processing plant in the world, to be sited in Ogun State.
Governor Abiodun, while unveiling the plan today said, the landmark project, a Public-Private Partnership, is designed to process 100 tons of cotton per hour, translating to over 1,000 tons per workday.
”From raw cotton to finished garments, this facility is projected to produce over 4 million garments daily.”
The investment is valued at $2.5 billion, and it is expected to directly employ 250,000 Nigerians and create countless indirect jobs across the cotton farming value chain through off-take agreements already signed with farmers in Ogun State and across the country.
”This initiative is not just about industrial growth—it is about economic empowerment, national pride, and the repositioning of Nigeria as the number one cotton and garment hub, not just in Africa, but globally,” Governor Abiodun said.
The Governor assured that President Bola Tinubu will perform the groundbreaking ceremony of the ”transformational development” in the next 60 days.
”We are excited and fully aligned with Mr. President’s vision, and we are committed to ensuring that Ogun State remains a beacon of progress in the Renewed Hope agenda,” he adds.
