…Lagos produces around 13,000 tonnes of waste every single day.

TUE MAY 27 2025-theGBJournal| The Lagos State Government and ZoomLion Nigeria, part of the Jospong Group, on Monday signed an agreement on managing waste across the state.

Lagos produces around 13,000 tonnes of waste every single day.

”That’s a huge number, and it’s clear we need stronger systems in place to deal with it. This partnership aims to address that,” said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu after the agreement was signed.

”Through this agreement, we’ll be building a Transfer Loading Station at the Olusosun dumpsite, allowing us to shut down Olusosun completely. From there, 2,500 tonnes of waste daily will be moved to a new Material Recovery Facility in Ikorodu,” he adds.

Sanwo-Olu said a similar facility will be constructed at the Solous III dumpsite in Igando, with 1,500 tonnes of waste redirected to another new recovery centre in Badagry.

”This project will improve how we handle waste and is expected to create over 5,000 jobs directly and indirectly,” he said.

According to Governor Sanwo-Olu, the partnership aligns with the state government’s broader environmental agenda, highlighting its dedication to transforming Lagos into a model mega-city with global standards in urban hygiene and environmental stewardship.

”We are taking steps in the right direction, towards cleaner streets, better health, and a more livable Lagos for all of us.”
