THUR MAY 01 2025-theGBJournal| The Flying Eagles secured three vital points with a 1-0 win against Tunisia to begin TotalEnergies CAF U20 Africa Cup campaign at the 30 June Air Defence Stadium in Cairo on Thursday.

A feast of intense physical football. That was what the Flying Eagles and Tunisia served up in the trilling win in the Group B opener.

Auwal Ibrahim’s first-half strike was enough to separate the two sides. Mid-fielder, Odinaka Okoro’s well-weighted pass found the well placed Ibrahim in the 38th minute, and he drove the ball sweetly past the Tunisian stopper from a close range.

Nigeria dominated early proceedings and played some unbelievable fast passes, while creating several chances.

But Tunisia came back strongly after the goal, nearly levelling up the score through striker Omar Ben Ali and then Anis Doubai. Nigeria held their ground despite the sustained onslaught.

The result gives the Eagles a needed boost as they face another strong North African opposition in Morocco. Kenya, the East Africa football power house is also in the group in which many expects Nigeria to progress from into the next stage.

The Flying Eagles has won the tournament seven times, the most decorated team in the U20 AFCON history.
