Chief Ugochukwu Nnam, President of Initiative for Leadership Development and Change (ILDC), on Monday urged members of the 9th Assembly to use only pedigree and character as watchwords for the election of speaker.
Nnam told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that tribal considerations must not be used as yardstick for the election.
He said that only a lawmaker with pedigree, character and impeccable record would drive progress, especially under President Buhari’s uncompromising stance against corruption.
The ILDC boss said that among the contenders, Emeka Nwajiuba, was more qualified based on his clean slate overtime.
“Nwajiuba is a man without any stain among the contenders so far.
“Unless another person will come out tomorrow, but as at today, Nwajiuba is the best in terms of pedigree and character, ” Nnam said.
He also called on the lawmakers to consider Nigeria first in their choice of speaker, saying that only an incorruptible speaker would successfully work with Buhari
“ This is Nigeria’s project and we must see it as such without sentiments in order to elect the best.“
He called on Nigerians to support the government of President Buhari which he said would eliminate corruption in the country.
NAN reports that the 9th Assembly will be officially inaugurated on June 11 at the National Assembly complex, Abuja.
