MON, 28 DEC, 2020-theGBJournal- The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi today revealed that 8% of people who have travelled into Nigeria, tested positive for COVID-19 on day 7, a trend he described as ‘’worrying’’.
‘’That means 8 out of every 100 people travelling into the country was positive.’’ the Commissioner said during a press conference to give updates on recent developments on the COVID-19 2nd wave, in Lagos.
He expressed concern that a number of the travellers are not showing up for test.
‘’Some people are giving out fake contact information, fake telephone numbers and fake email addresses. So we find it difficult to find people who have defaulted. Again, this is an act of irresponsibility.’’
He confirmed that the State is sending out ‘’a whole logistics team to find what we call the day 7 defaulters.’’
The Commissioner however, was comforted that majority of passengers that have flown into Lagos are complying with the day-7 for their test.
Lagos remains the epicentre of the disease in the country. It reported 253 new cases as at 26th of December, 2020 and total confirmed cases of 28, 774. Professor Abayomi said the State has conducted 213, 623 total cumulative COVID-19 tests.
