BENUE, APRIL 30, 2018 – The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has urged Christians and Muslims to pray and fast for seven days for divine intervention in the security situation in the state.

The Governor stated that there was need for such prayers because the security and humanitarian crises confronting the state have overwhelmed human capacity hence the need for divine help and wisdom to overcome them.

The programme commenced on Friday, 27th April, 2018 with fasting and prayers by Muslims in mosques throughout all the 23 Local Government Areas in the state as well as the state headquarters in Makurdi.

The Muslim prayers which will be held in the mornings and evenings will end on Thursday next week.

A statement signed by Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Affairs and Civil Society Organizations said similarly, Christians will start their prayer and fasting on Monday, 30th April, 2018, in churches in all local government areas of the State and end on Sunday, 6th May, 2018.

The faithful of the two faiths in the state have been enjoined to intensify prayers and fasting for an end to the invasion of the State and ongoing killings as well as a return to peace and peaceful coexistence among all groups.

Those who can undertake complete dry fasting have been encouraged to do so to underscore the desperate situation and need for urgent divine intervention.
