WED, 26 OCT, 2022-theGBJournal| According to the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele, 33 banks are now fully integrated and live on the platform of the eNaira platform.
The Governor disclosed at the event to mark the first-year anniversary of the eNaira.
The apex Governor said onboarded customers is near the 1 million mark with over 3,305 merchants successfully registered on the eNaira platform across the country.
Mr. Godwin Emefiele pledges that the Central Bank of Nigeria will continue to encourage innovation while simultaneously protecting the interests of consumers and other stakeholders. He also believes that the eNaira will drive the digital economy agenda and foster a more prosperous Nigeria.
According the CBN, the implementation of the eNaira has put Nigeria in the global spotlight as one of the pioneers to deploy a CBDC into live production. This has continued to attract the interest of global stakeholders such as the IMF, World Bank, other Central Banks, and the CBDC community.
As part of activities lined up to mark the first anniversary of the eNaira, the Central Bank of Nigerian is holding a one-day workshop themed “Leveraging Innovation for Inclusive Growth and Development: The eNaira Advantage” scheduled to take place on Tuesday October 25, 2022 at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The objectives of the workshop include review the eNaira implementation journey, one year after, to drive further adoption of the eNaira through public engagement, and to facilitate global policy dialogue on CBDC to promote peer learning and benchmarking.
