WED. 07 DEC, 2022-theGBJournal| The Federal Controller of Works in Delta State, Jimoh Olawale has said the newly constructed Second Niger Bridge will be opened to traffic on December, 15 2022.

Mr Olawale told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Wednesday in Asaba, Delta State that the Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola ordered the opening of the bridge, which is at 95% completion stage, to ease traffic during the yuletide.

He said the brigde will however be opened for a period of 30 days.

The order to open the bridge follows the completion of work at the Owerri Interchange and Asaba access road.

The bridge is a major strategic link to the East of Nigeria and complements the decades old Niger Bridge into Onistha, Anambra state, which has witnessed unprecedented traffic congestions over the years.

Many Easterners who make the journey home every year expressed delight at the news.

”This is what we have prayed for for years, and I am glad it is happening in my life time,” Ogadi Awele told theG&BJournal in Lagos.

He said the opening of the bridge portends well for travellers who have suffered untold hardship every Yuletide season.

He also believes the frequency of robbery along the route during the period will be greatly reduced.

President Muhammadu Buhari had in October 2022, assured that the multi-billion Naira bridge will be opened to to travellers before Christmas.
