$2.7b Ibom Seaport contract signing set for April

FRI, JANUARY 11 2019-theG&BJournal- The federal government has signalled its intention to speedily deliver the $2.5 billion Ibom Deep Seaport (IDSP), a Public Private Partnership (PPP) project designed for very large vessels, vessels that can load over 13 thousand containers in one voyage.

Ms Imeh Okon, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Infrastructure dropped the hint today in Uyo during a high level Stakeholders retreat on PPP.

“I can assure you before April, the contract for Ibom Deep Seaport will be signed and the approved consortium will start immediately,’’ she told the gathering.

Request for Proposal Bid Opening and Evaluation’ was held in Lagos September 2018.

The IDSP is a Federal Government project under the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Akwa Ibom State and Nigerian Port Authority. It is also part of the 14,400 hectare Ibom Industrial City. The Global Maritime & Port Services PTE Limited is the transaction driver.

Maritime operators welcome the latest development and spoke of its strategic importance to the nation’s maritime industry. The port, when completed will serve West and Central African Region, JDZ Sao Tome, Equatorial Guinea, Cameroun, Angola, Gabon, Congo, Congo DRC, Chad etc.
