MON 22 MARCH, 2021-theGBJournal-In Abia, Kebbi, Kogi, Niger, Oyo, Sokoto, Taraba and Zamfara states no eligible citizen has received a jab of the COVID-19 vaccine, one week after the implementation of the vaccine programme.
The Governor of Zamfara State, Dr Bello Matawalle is the only reported citizen the State to have received a jab today.
The update is provided by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) whose data published today shows that only 3.1% of Nigerians has been vaccinated, which is equivalent of 122, 410 eligible Nigerians.
The NPHCDA data seen by theGBJournal shows that Lagos leads in the number of vaccinated citizens with a total of 36, 009 or 7.1% of eligible citizens. Jigawa State in percentage terms lead with 28% of its citizens, a total of 19, 226 vaccinated. Bauchi closely follows with 14, 422 or 17.9% of target.
The vaccination rollout lags in many states and the NPHCDA provided no explanation for the slow pace of vaccination. In Borno, Anambra, Ebonyi, fewer than ten doses of the vaccine have so far been administered.
In Adamawa State only 7% of the eligible target has received the vaccine. Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers and Delta States in the South South have between 0.1% and 0.8% of their citizens jabbed, an abysmally low number compared to their population. Several States in the Northern part of the country have equally witnessed very low vaccination.
The vaccination was rolled with frontline workers top of the priority list of those to receive the vaccine after about 4 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccines was delivered from the COVAX Facility Tuesday March 2, 2021.
