10th Federal House of Representatives elect Tajudeen Abbass and Benjamin Okezie Kalu as Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively

TUE, JUNE 13 2023-theGBJournal | The members of the 10th Federal House of Representatives has voted to elect Hon. Tajudeen Abass as the new Speaker. The lawmaker represents Zaria Federal Constituency, Kaduna State.

He succeeds Femi Gbajabialmila who has since assumed office as the Chief of Staff (CoS) to the President, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after relinquishing the Speakership and stepping aside from the House.

Hon. Abass scored a total of 353 votes to defeat two other contestants, Idris Wase and Aminu Jaji who picked up three votes respectively.

Speaker Abass is reputed for sponsoring 74 Bills, the highest number of bills in the 9th Assembly and was the House Committee Chairman on Land Transport.

Similarly, Bejamin Okezie Kalu, representing Bende Federal Constituency, Abia State, came out the Deputy Speaker of the House unopposed.

Kalu, 52, is a graduate from the University of Calabar, and serves as the Spokesperson of the House and the Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs.
